Alumni Spotlight – Varyam Gupta

Varyam has been pursuing a dual degree program at Huntsman, which offered a unique blend of business and international studies. Read on to get a glimpse of his experience.

Why abroad?

During my time in the US education system, what truly stood out to me was the flexibility within the curriculum and the plethora of one-on-one research opportunities available. The dual degree options allowed me to tailor my education to my specific interests, providing a well-rounded academic experience. Additionally, access to alumni and diverse class offerings enriched my learning journey, allowing me to engage with real-world challenges and connect with professionals in various industries.

Why CollegeCore?

CollegeCore played a pivotal role in preparing me for college by refining my writing skills and enhancing my ability to multitask effectively. The platform’s assistance with essays significantly improved my writing style, which proved invaluable in college classes and beyond. Moreover, the multitasking skills I developed while juggling applications for both Economics and Engineering programs helped me navigate the demanding workload of multiple courses and extracurricular commitments during university.

Key Learnings

My college journey was filled with unexpected challenges and valuable lessons. I hadn’t anticipated the intensity of “the work hard, play hard” culture or the crucial importance of time management. However, I learned to make the most of every opportunity by staying proactive, avoiding procrastination, and remaining flexible to adapt to changing circumstances. These strategies allowed me to excel academically while also participating in extracurricular activities and building lasting relationships with peers and mentors.

The valuable takeaways from college that have shaped my career trajectory include a strong work ethic and the ability to leverage my position as a student to forge meaningful connections. By consistently working hard and persistently pursuing my goals, I laid the foundation for future success. Moreover, the relationships I cultivated with faculty, alumni, upperclassmen, and friends served as a robust support system, offering guidance and opportunities as I navigated post-college life.

To prospective freshmen, I would advise utilizing your network and actively seeking insights from individuals familiar with your prospective colleges. Talking to current students, alumni, and faculty members can provide invaluable insights into the culture and environment of a university, helping you determine if it’s the right fit for you. Additionally, embrace the challenges and opportunities that college presents, and don’t hesitate to step out of your comfort zone to explore new interests and pursue your passions.
